The Piha Library

A small community library run by volunteers. Open limited hours each week. Books to borrow, books to swap, and the kind of village institution that quietly keeps things going.

A community hub with real heart.

About

The Piha Community Library is nestled in the heart of the village, next to the campground. Not affiliated to the Auckland City Council libraries, this little gem welcomes visitors and locals alike.

Open most mornings from 10-1pm (Sat, Sun, Mon, Wed), with a Thursday afternoon shift timed to meet the school buses 3:30-5:30, the library offers free Wi-Fi and maps of the area.

The friendly duty volunteer will happily share information about local attractions and where to eat. Souvenir tea-towels, tote bags and cards depicting Piha make handy presents to take home, as well as preloved books for $2, and $5 kites.

For local residents, the membership is $15 per year. There’s a lively children’s section, and the adult library is well-known for the selection of prize-winners and brand new publications (no waiting list here).

For those interested in local history there is a comprehensive collection by local historians to browse. Several groups use the library for weekly get-togethers.

Proud of its history going back to 1959, and looking forward to serving the community for many years to come, this community hub is worth a visit.
